Stephen Deruby's Contrabass Drone with EZ Reach Fluteplayers often say "I really love this flute". Well, this is one of those "I really love this flute, I want to marry it and take it for a honeymoon with me" kind of flute. Contrabass drone flute made from cedar, not Native American flute scale (even though you can play NAF scale), the basic scale is Mojave scale. Being Mojave scale it is VERY meditative, such a great flute for relaxation, very haunting. This video is taped on a laptop without any enhancement, I can tell you though, while this video somewhat illustrates what the flute sounds like, it doesn't do justice to the reality of it. The drone is louder than the computer can capture, when you're playing this flute you can really feel the vibration. For those who doesn't know Deruby's EZReach basically is a different mouthpiece than a traditional native American flute, it is not a block dual chambered flute, it is more like a fipple. It also reduces the distance between the mouth to the first hole. To put it into perspective, my height is about 170cm and I can play this flute just fine. I've tested this flute by playing it for a significant time, no wetout at all, so long time playing is possible without any hassle. The drone side does require quite a bit of air to have its full potential, but its nothing major.
