Just before the start of broadcasting on Easter Sunday, 1964, the Caroline management decided that the station must have some jingles, as Radio Luxembourg had a very distinctive package of attention grabbing jingles and Caroline needed some too. Somewhat at the last minute, singers and musicians were gathered in a Dublin hotel and the very first Caroline Package was born. This first package may not have been the best in the world at that time, but for a fledgling station, with no previous jingle experience; it was a superb effort, and money was not spared on the package, with singers such as Madelaine Bell and Doris Troy on vocals. You can hear the first Caroline home made package on the Video Channel. After the station went on air, all sorts of slick-sounding, boss radio type jingles came over with the US and Canadian jocks, add to this jingles and promo's that the DJ's made up for themselves and and a unique melting pot formed. This new series, from an idea by Euan Walker, will feature some of the well known, and the very obscure, tracks which the Caroline jocks on both ships cut up for jingle use. First comes the jingle, then the track from which it was lifted.
